What You Need to Know Before Getting a Nostril Piercing
So you’re considering a nostril piercing? They are ADORABLE and such a fun way to express yourself, but it’s so important to do your research before hand to know if it is the correct piercing for you! Here is what you should know before committing to one!
Let’s start with what really is a nostril piercing?
This is a piercing placed on the upper curve of the cartilage that makes up the side of your nostril.
How painful are they?
Most people say the pain ranges between a 5 out of 10! But everyone’s pain tolerance is different. Most peoples eye’s will water when getting this piercing due to the nerves we trigger while piercing this location.
How long do they take to heal?
Nostrils are a cartilage piercing and can take about 4-12 months to heal fully with proper aftercare!! So be prepared to commit to taking care of them and follow all aftercare instructions. Cleaning 2x a day with a sterile saline solution. Be sure to spray the inside AND outside of the piercing for the minimum healing time. Avoid getting makeup or active skincare products on them during this period as well! Those products will increase your risk for infection and irritation bumps!
What jewelry can I wear with a Nostril Piercing?
I ALWAYS start it out with a stud! This helps lessen the chances of irritation and provides the proper amount of space for swelling/healing. Hoops are cute, but wait until the piercing is FULLY HEALED before switching to one! If you start out or switch to a hoop in a nostril piercing too early this can result in unessesary trauma to the healing piercing and increased infection risk.
